💕Slow Days, Sweet Moments: Valentine’s Week at ABC Academy
If there’s one thing preschool has taught me over the years, it’s this:
The magic is almost always in the slow days.
This week at ABC Academy was full of Valentine excitement — little hands clutching cards, proud smiles during exchanges, and the sweetest giggles echoing through our classroom. There is just something special about watching young children experience the joy of giving to their friends.
We passed out valentines, indulged in a little chocolate and icing (because… balance 😉), and of course danced our hearts out to our favorite songs. If you know preschoolers, you know — celebrations always include music and movement!
Later in the afternoon, we took things outside to the backyard to soak up that beautiful February sunshine. These are the moments I wish I could bottle up forever — children laughing, running, and simply being little.
And then… reality check.
Mrs. Middleton finally declared, “Okay… no more sugar!” 😄
We regrouped with a cozy back porch snack of popcorn chicken, fresh strawberries, and milk — the perfect way to settle back into our rhythm after all the Valentine fun.
💡 Why These Days Matter
In early childhood, it’s easy to feel pressure to make every holiday bigger, cuter, and more Pinterest-perfect. But after 20+ years in this field, I can tell you with confidence:
👉 Children don’t need over-the-top.
👉 They don’t need perfection.
👉 They don’t need packed schedules.
They need connection.
They need time.
They need joy.
The slow, simple days — the ones filled with friendship, sunshine, music, and shared snacks — are the ones that build the strongest memories and the deepest learning.
☕ A Little Note to Fellow Educators & Mamas
If your classroom (or home) felt a little loud, a little sticky, and a lot joyful this week…
You’re doing it right.
Here’s to more slow days, more sunshine, and more moments worth remembering at ABC Academy.
