From Lunch Duty to Zoom Mode

I had three zooms today. THREE!!! The first Zoom came right after feeding 16 hungry preschoolers — which, if you know, you know. 😅

There is no faster workout than:

  • serving plates

  • opening milk cartons

  • wiping faces

  • and answering seventeen questions about who got the bigger strawberry

So yes… I was already cutting it close when Zoom #1 rolled around.

Tell me I’m not the only one sliding into meetings fresh off lunch duty. 😂

The Great Zoom Juggle

There is a special skill set that comes with being an early childhood educator, business owner, and mom all wrapped into one.

I was already running late to the first Zoom, then found myself driving home while listening carefully to the second Zoom attendance call.

Because when you wear this many hats… you learn to make every minute count.

At one point, two Zooms overlapped by ten minutes. Thank goodness for multiple technology devices — because we were officially in teacher survival mode.

Razorbacks + Zoom = Real Life

And if that wasn’t enough…

The Hogs were playing Alabama at the exact same time as my NAFCC State Rep Zoom. 🐗🏀

So there I am, nodding professionally on Zoom… while in the background:

“LET’S GO HOGS!!!” 📣

Between Dusty and Madalyn cheering their hearts out and me riding the mute button like a pro, it was a whole situation over here.

But I will say this — I wrapped up just in time to catch the two overtimes, and whew… what a game!

Meanwhile… The Sign Says It All

Sitting right there in the preschool kitchen window is one of my favorite little reminders:

I don’t have ducks in a row…

I have chickens and they are everywhere.

And honestly? That pretty much summed up the day at ABC Academy. 😂🐔

What This Really Shows

Here’s the truth I always come back to — and what I want my fellow early childhood educators to hear:

This is what real life leadership looks like.

It’s not always perfectly quiet offices and color-coded schedules.

Sometimes it’s:

  • feeding 16 kids and hopping straight on Zoom

  • running late but showing up anyway

  • listening to meetings from the car

  • cheering in the background

  • multitasking like a champion

  • and still showing up professionally for the work that matters

Early childhood educators are experts at doing big work in real-life environments. We pivot. We juggle. We make it work.

From My Kitchen Window to Yours

Today was loud.

It was busy.

It was a little chaotic.

But it was also a beautiful reminder that this work we do — supporting children, families, and our profession — happens in real homes and real classrooms.

And from my little preschool kitchen window at ABC Academy…

I wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️
